The Civil Rights Commission Must Persist

I was introduced to the NAS in the 1980s by the late Barry Gross and have been involved with the institution off-and-on over the years. The NAS is at the forefront of preserving and protecting our country’s founding principles

One of those principles currently at risk is liberty. Unless we restrain each branch of government in the manner evisioned by the Founders, the protections provided by the Constitution will erode overtime. To much power concentrated in any one branch will chip away at the legal protections that are designed to rein in the sovereign. The branch of government that concerns me the most is the federal judiciary. Politicians at least face some, though far from perfect, restraints at each election. But how do we restrain judges with lifetime tenure? To call the problem difficult does not do it justice.
