The original version of this article unfortunately contained three mistakes in wording and sentence structure that could lead to a misunderstanding of the text. Specifically:
“It is well documented that the share of Americans who approve of interracial marriage…” should read as “These surveys have shown that the share of Americans who approve of interracial marriage…”
“Figure 3, have undergone a large abrupt spike towards historical highs starting around 2013.” should read as “Figure 3, have undergone a large abrupt spike towards historical highs starting around 2011-2014.”
“…in order to obtain power, sympathy, preferential treatment, or deference.” should read as “…in order to receive sympathy and leniency, intimidate adversaries or as a competitive strategy to recruit third-party support.”
